Arnold Schafer has established a solid reputation as an expert in Chapter 11 bankruptcies and out-of-court reorganizations. In a career spanning 30 years, Schafer has restructured more companies, both in court and out-of-court, than anyone practicing law in the Eastern District of Michigan, including major automotive concerns, real estate developers, investors, and public and privately held companies.

His vast experience includes the successful reorganization of several publicly owned and nationally recognized companies. Schafer received a Bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University in 1971, and completed his Juris Doctorate from the University of Detroit Law School. Schafer was a partner in the firms of August, Thompson & Miller and Evans & Luptak before forming a professional corporation bearing his own name in 1983.

From the start, Schafer focused his practice on business law, bankruptcy and creditors’ rights. Since 1974, he has offered staunch representation to corporate debtors, secured lenders, creditors’ committees, as well as individual debtors, in Federal Court, Bankruptcy Court and State Court — at all levels of debt restructuring and insolvency proceedings. In addition to corporate reorganizations, Schafer practices corporate law, commercial litigation, and real estate law.

In 1985, Arnold Schafer joined forces with attorney Daniel J. Weiner to form Schafer and Weiner, a firm committed to offering clients outstanding results and well-deserved opportunities. As senior partner, Schafer is a member of the Oakland County and American Bar Associations, as well as a member of the Federal Bar and the bankruptcy section of the Federal Bar Association. Having
authored vital sections of a treatise concerning bankruptcy and divorce, he is also a sought-after speaker at the University of Michigan School of Law and Wayne State University School of Law.
His commentary on bankruptcy and insolvency issues can frequently be found in Crain’s Detroit Business and other well-known publications.
