Howard M. Borin brings a rare combination of accounting,
finance and economics acumen to cases of bankruptcy law
and commercial litigation.
His unique business education has provided creative solutions to complex issues for many clients of Schafer and
Weiner in the years since Borin joined as associate in
1996.
Named a partner in 2001, Borin handles every
aspect of Chapter 11 matters, conducting numerous trials and evidentiary
hearings, both in state court and bankruptcy proceedings.
Borin received a Bachelor’s in General Business Administration from Michigan
State University in 1991. He attended Wayne State University for his first year of
law school, where he was third in his class, and finished at University of Michigan
Law School, receiving his Juris Doctorate in 1994.
Following graduation, Borin became a staff attorney with the Michigan Court of
Appeals in the pre-hearing division.
In addition, Borin has successfully argued before the Sixth Circuit Court of
Appeals.
He is admitted to practice in various courts around the state and the country:
• United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan;
• United States District Court for the Western District of Michigan;
• United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas;
• United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit; and
• United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
