One of Schafer and Weiner’s most savvy litigators, Joseph
K. Grekin has a proven litigation track record. He has
successfully obtained favorable results for clients in both
jury and bench trials, in the appeals courts, through
motion practice, and through alternative dispute
resolution procedures such as binding arbitration and
voluntary mediation.
Grekin has expertise in helping clients achieve their business goals in both simple
cases and in complex, high stakes litigation. Grekin’s litigation successes include
winning a $1.35 million jury verdict, winning a summary disposition motion that
succeeded in dismissing claims of over $1 million against his client and
negotiating a settlement that enabled the client to foreclose on real property worth $8 million. Grekin also wrote the winning brief in the published Michigan
Supreme Court case Chmielewski v Xermac, Inc. 457 Mich 593, 580 NW 2d 817
(1998).
Grekin attended the University of Michigan Law School. He participated in moot
court during his second year and won the award for the best brief in his docket.
He graduated from Michigan cum laude in 1994, subsequently working as a
judicial clerk for Chief Justice James H. Brickley of the Michigan Supreme Court.
Since his clerkship, Grekin has appeared in numerous courts, including federal
appeals courts, federal district courts, bankruptcy courts, administrative courts,
the Michigan Supreme Court, the Michigan Court of Appeals, and various state
circuit and district courts across Michigan. He has also been a guest lecturer at
Pennsylvania State University, speaking on the art of argument.
