Among his many distinctions, Michael E. Baum serves as
co-chair of the Mediation Panel of the United States
Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Michigan —
a program he himself helped to innovate in 1996.
He also has served on the Advisory Committee to the
United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District
and on the Subcommittee for Alternative Dispute
Resolution.
Baum has also served as the Chairman of the Rules Subcommittee,
which was formed to provide recommendations to the court regarding first-day
motions and Chapter 11 confirmation proceedings. He also holds a Doctorate in
Hebrew Letters.
A graduate of Wayne State University Law School, where Baum was awarded an
International Law Scholarship, his practice today focuses almost exclusively on
business bankruptcy reorganizations, real estate law, and alternative dispute
resolution.
Certified as an expert in Business Bankruptcy Law by the American Bankruptcy
Board of Certification, Baum has lectured on insolvency related issues for various
accounting organizations, as well as the American Bankruptcy Institute and the
Real Property Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan, to name just a few.
Baum is a Contributing Editor to the ABI Journal and his list of published literature
includes contributions to both the Michigan Real Property and the Michigan Practitioners publications. And his client list reads like a “Who’s Who” of
Metropolitan Detroit’s most successful businesses, with a number of national and
state-wide real estate concerns and companies thrown in for good measure.
Baum joined Schafer and Weiner in 1988, and he continues to build on nearly 25
years experience… and to further distinguish himself as one of Michigan’s leading
business bankruptcy attorneys.
