Schafer and Weiner designed a strategy that allowed a partnership to refinance a Michigan office building from its existing lender to a new lender during December 2014. Through creativity and ingenuity -- and without litigation -- Schafer and Weiner prevented a sale of the partnership’s loan to an unrelated third party, asserted an agreement by the existing lender to accept a discounted payoff, and negotiated and closed take-out financing at almost a 50 percent discount.
